Product Description
If you have a loved one in the middle or late stages of Alzheimer's disease, you know how frustrating and difficult it can be to communicate. But it's not impossible to maintain a real relationship with your friend or family member, even as his or her Alzheimer's advances. In more than sixteen years of work with Alzheimer's patients and their families, author Judith London has learned how to 'connect the dots' of scattered information offered by people with Alzheimer's so that loved ones can understand the depth of feeling still present in them. Connecting the Dots reveals London's practical techniques for decoding the language of Alzheimer's to improve communication. With this book as your guide, you can better navigate your relationship with your loved one and keep a meaningful connection.

| Customer Reviews: A great aid for anyone dealing with anyone with Alzheimer's December 13, 2009 Y. berger (NY, USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Dr. London's book provides an unusual combination of scholarly research, concrete advice, and heartwarming stories, in a very readable format. She clearly has a lot of experience with this population and shares it in a very user-friendly manner. This book is suitable for both people who are caring for loved ones who suffer from dementia, as well as professionals who deal with this population and their families. It provides an understanding of the condition and the various problems surrounding it, as well as easy to follow tips on how to best manage.
A must-read for anyone dealing with a loved one with Alzheimer's November 26, 2009 Still Recovering (Washington DC) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is such a hopeful, powerful book! Dr London gives us so many helpful, clear suggestions about communicating with a loved one with Alzheimer's disease. What I came away with was a sense that there IS hope - hope to be able to communicate with my loved one, hope that they are still 'in there', struggling to be understood and yes, to be loved. It is so tragic watching someone fade away and VERY frustrating dealing with the ramifications of lost memories - this book gave me tools to communicate, and ideas about the process of getting 'through' to them.
I particularly liked the way the book is organized; she tells us stories about her patients and their struggles with suggestions highlighted in each chapter in side bars that allowed me to first skim the book and start using her ideas immediately. I LIKED her patients and could relate to many of them via my own experiences.
A Significant Breakthrough December 13, 2009 B. Wilson 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I heartily recommend "Connecting the Dots" to anyone who knows someone with Alzheimer's or dementia, particularly caregivers and/or relatives. It offers support, hope and encouragement and provides specific techniques for successful communication. The patients Dr. London cared for were indeed fortunate to have suce a wise and compassionate champion. Dr. London has shared her insights, "tools" and techniques, giving us all the opportunity to better understand and cope with the difficulties of communicating with Alzheimer's patients, improving their lives and restoring the dignity they deserve.
Superb book - indispensable if you have a loved one with dementia July 29, 2010 Nora Kruger (Stanford, CA USA) Judith London has done a wonderful service to those of us with loved ones who suffer from dementia. This book is compassionate, wise, and very practical. Reading poignant real life stories of people with whom Judith has worked over the years, and seeing how often they react so positively to her empathetic way of interacting with them was heart rending and full of hope at the same time. The "tools" which form the other part of the book are wonderful when you feel lost and don't know what to say to your loved one. I particularly liked the way they were organized throughout the book, and summarized at the end. And they work! I checked off the ones I felt I needed most to talk to my 92 year old mother, and re-read them before I went to visit her. This book made our visit happier and much more harmonious. If I could give it 6 stars, I would.
